So I may be wrong here but I think that Vanesa from Whisperown may be the cutest girl in the whole wide world of Indie. I could really go on about this for paragraphs, but I know that even these two sentences are going to get me into trouble...I posted about Whispertown last month - read about it here.
Now the day Whispertown came to Houston, it had been storming like crazy - massive flooding, helicopter rescues, submerged vehicles, the media pumping the fear angle like they do best - the whole bit.
In light of this, and out of concern that the storm was going to swing around and flood the surrounding area, the venue posted that the show was cancelled. I had called them about 6pm and been told the same thing - show is cancelled.
(Luke Skywalker Impression here) NOOO!!!!!!
But I didn't believe it, I figured there was no way the show was cancelled. The venue might have opted to not have it anymore but I knew the show would go on somewhere. Hell, I would have brought the band back to my house to play in my living room before I let them drive away without a gig.
So the girl I see (and she really looked stunning this night...) and I drove over to the venue. We actually pulled up about 2 minutes after the band. They were standing around their van looking like a band who had just driven across Texas, arrived at their destination, just to be told that the gig had been cancelled. In other words, none too pleased.
I rolled down my window and stuck my head out.
"PLEASE tell me you all are playing. I called and they said the show was cancelled!" (Yeah, I didn't sound like a fan boy at all.)
"Well we can play early, before the storm comes back!" replied Morgan.
Excellent - this was my kind of band.
There were about 8 people there at the beginning of the show. Good people who hadn't given up at the news that the show had been cancelled. People who had gotten into their cars and drove to the venue to see for themselves if the terrible word "cancelled" was true.
Thank God it wasn't.
The bands were fantastic - amazing sets from Whispertown and Mike Runion. Lots of entertaining banter (in a slightly recriminating tone, I might add) about how the show had been cancelled.
Oh and did I mention how insanely beautiful Vanesa looked?
