the duke spirit 03/14/08

Quick post tonight on The Duke Spirit to wrap up the 2008 SXSW Free Yr Radio Broadcast Corner shows that I managed to capture (see previous posts on She & Him and Dave Monks of Tokyo Police Club)

I really enjoyed the Free Yr Radio shows - they were perfect morsel-sized mini shows - all running about 20 minutes, and smack in the middle of about a dozen other venues hosting shows. Just made it super easy to dart in check out a band - and then scuttle off to the next show at some nearby venue.

The Duke Spirit was the first band I got to see there - a British rock band who reminded me a bit of the Pixies - just that kind of sensibility and sound. Listen to the full set including the interviews over at the Current and check out a couple of the tracks below.
